If you are just starting out with drones, this is the way to go. Once I had decided to make flying drones a hobby, my thought process was to buy an inexpensive drone, learn to fly it, and once I had mastered that, buy a more expensive drone. After sending back two other drones (each under $100) I had came to the conclusion that maybe flying drones was not for me. Each drone had problems with reliability and was NOTHING as stated in the description. Then I saw this one. After reading up on it I decided to give drones one more try. And I am glad I did. This drone has sold me on drones. Its responsive, forgiving, rock solid in performance but best of all it has a "panic" button (as I call it). If you ever feel like things are getting a little out of control, you just press the ascend/descend button and it will gently land itself. Same goes if it gets out of range. It will gently land itself and the lights will flash until the battery runs out. This so you can find it. I have luckily never had to use that feature but I know others that have. Battery life is great. I have flown it up to 30 minutes. The best part is that you can get replacement batteries and other parts fairly cheap. I hate to say this but I love this drone so much that I will be sad when I move on to bigger and better ones. But I will keep this one and fly it now and then to remember old times.
I have several drones, but this little Tomzon is my favorite. This is a very small drone (~ 3.5 inches square), so it's an indoor drone. Unless you have zero breeze, I wouldn't fly it outside. Even if you don't feel a breeze, remember that there's always air movement higher up, so if you're outside, be mindful that this little guy could get lost very easily. So, I advise only indoor flying.
It's capable of doing flips, which are nice and tight. It'll also do large pirouette, and my favorite, spin, all my a simple push of a button on the remote.
There's almost no latency between the remote and drone, so it responds quickly. It's zippy, even in slowest speed, so keep it in mind when flying it. It's easy to correct any drift with the 4 dedicated buttons on the remote.
As with all drones, it needs calibration on a level surface when you start it. If you don't do this, you won't be able to control the drone. The Tomzon has the easiest setup and calibration I've ever used. It automatically syncs with the remote and gyro calibration is done by pushing the dedicated button.
The drone is hardy. I've crashed a few times and like a well-known bunny, it keeps going. This drone is my cat's favorite drone. I guess it's the LEDs, or maybe because it's so zippy. He loves stalking it.
The LEDs are fantastic. They're controllable by remote. They're bright, so you can see them in daylight. I took the short video to show you how how they look. The light was on in the room.
The batteries last a surprising amount of time, especially given the fact that the drone is small. I get a good 9-10 minutes of flying time per battery. I always let the drone rest after using 2 batteries, so the motors don't overheat. The charging time is ~ 1.25 hours. You'll get the recharging cord, which plugs into a standard 5v USB plug.
I loved this drone so much that this is my 2nd A23. I gave the first one to a friend. It's a very good first drone.
Fuselage is very brittle. Control is spotty.
While flying in driveway, lost link and did it's own thing. Landed on our roof, slid off out of control and crashed. Two of the arms cracked at their base.
Since then have repaired multiple times with multiple crashes; accidental or due to spotty connection with controller.
Camera is ok. Battery 7-8min.
