NOTE: The irony is not lost on me, that talking about nationalism and keeping cultures separated is silly when playing music that has arguably more Western influence than Eastern. ( That’s why I chose some songs that sampled old Japanese instruments. ) But really, it’s impossible to be 100% isolated. And it’s a bit of a straw man to think that most nationalists want this. As Ann Coulter said in that sample, she wants to visit these countries. This will inevitably lead to cultural exchanges, and proof of this impact can be seen in port towns. For example, Kobe is well known for being very hip and fashionable in regards to the latest Western trend. But the majority of the population is still Japanese, and they have a unified identity they seek to preserve as it adapts with the times. We should all be so lucky.

Furthermore, the 6th song featured in the mixtape with the hook, “beautiful city,” is actually about their admiration for Shanghai. And some interpretations of the lyrics say the artist looks enviously at Shanghai’s more traditional vibe, and view it in a modernist decline like what happened to Tokyo. Kind of like how white guys view homogenous Japan with envy and nostalgia. Pretty fuckin’ meta if you ask me.
                 .           .           .
But clearly, not all patriots and nationalists will have this mutual respect towards other countries and past enemies. I’m well aware of how naive and idealistic that is. Likewise though, enjoying historical connections and recognizing differences between peoples does not automatically equal WW3 Nanking Rape Fest 2.0 .

Special Thanks:

To my broken iPhone for keeping all this music. More to come later.

As always you should support the artists, so you might as well just google and buy their albums anyways.)

TL;DR
The Japanese really are a distinct population that stand out from all other Asians. And recent research into the YAP gene may prove that they share a common ancestor from Central Asia rather than coming from South East Asia like it was originally hypothesized. A lot of this is just speculation and debated theories, so take it with a grain of salt. But basically, the bearded native populations now found in Okinawa and Hokkaido (Eurasian types with more Jomon blood) migrated to Japan first. Then the proto Asians types (more Yayoi blood) came in and dominated. Lots of killing of course, and pushing them to them to the fringes of the island tips, but also lots of intermixing and baby making.  This is all very subtle to an outsider and even East Asians themselves have trouble telling the difference between their races:

But at the very least there is a distinction between East Asian and other Asians. And much like the people in the above video show, it’s often a gut feeling that’s hard to articulate. So let’s play a game. Pick out the most European looking male out of these images. (They’re computer composites made from algorithms that average out a nation’s populous.)
